Why do you choose to be a member of the Minnesota Optometric Association?
Because I'm an Optometrist... : ) More specifically, because no other organization is going to stand up for myself, my colleagues, and my profession other than the MOA, on both a regional and national level, more now than ever, it's critical that decision makers and government officials realize what we do and how much more we could do!
What do you like best about the profession of optometry?
I enjoy helping patients see and feel better, I also love all the innovation, technology, and how therapies are constantly evolving. The diversity of subspecialties and opportunities within optometry is also an amazing part of our world.
Describe your favorite memory from your optometric career.
So many...BUT, I recently saw a patient back for a cornea check (herpetic) and having rehabilitated a once Hand Motion cornea back to 20/20 with cosmetic improvement of scarring and neovascularization is a recent "win". "Winning" against blindness is my fav.
What fun fact would you like to share about yourselves that your colleagues may not know about you?
I once had hair, hard to believe, I know...but true.
Please list any articles you have written or lectures you have provided to educate others on eye care.
Ummm... There's been a bunch :) Happy to share, but I don't think anyone wants to read through my CV. I'm pretty happy with SNAPSHOT in Modern Optometry as it shares some quick "pearls" and perspectives on ocular pathologies. A recent peer reviewed publication on a new category of ocular anti-inflammatory medication was also pretty exciting; Starr CE, Nichols KK, Lang JR, Brady TC. The Phase 3 INVIGORATE Trial of Reproxalap in Patients with Seasonal Allergic Conjunctivitis. Clin Ophthalmol. 2023 Dec 13;17:3867-3875. doi: 10.2147/OPTH.S441009. PMID: 38105911; PMCID: PMC10725700.
