What do you like to do when you're not working?
I love spending time with my family. Our one year old is learning so much right now, and it is fun to experience the world through her eyes. When time allows, I also enjoy traveling, flower arranging and cooking.
What leads you to continue serving your community as an optometrist?
The work we do as optometrists can truly save lives, and I see this more often in practice than I ever thought I would as a student. I’m driven by the patients who come in because they are having a hard time seeing and want new glasses but it ends up being something much larger causing their vision concerns. We have a unique opportunity to get patients the systemic care they need. These patients can sometimes be the most stubborn, but I have found they are often the most thankful when they return for a follow-up after getting the care they needed.
If you weren't an optometrist, what would you be?
A food scientist! I once met the food scientist who created the marshmallows in Lucky Charms and considered it as a career path before deciding on optometry.
What drives you to continue your membership with the Minnesota Optometric Association?
Seeing firsthand the benefit scope expansion can have on our patients. The recent scope expansion has already benefited so many, and it motivates me even more to make the next push.
What cause means the most to you right now?
Ensuring those with disabilities feel included and cared for.
What fun fact would you like to share about yourself?
I'm a big Sound of Music fan!
