Member Profile – Laney Brown, OD
Where are you from
Cleveland, Ohio
Where do you currently live?
Hastings, Minnesota
Where do you currently practice?
I am retired from many years of practice starting with Pearle Vision in 1979, moving to Minnesota Eye Consultants in 1993 and then Health Partners in 2015.
What schools did you graduate from (undergrad and postgrad)?
Indiana University for undergraduate and Indiana University School of Optometry.
What do you like to do when you're not working?
A little of everything! I spend time with my 94-year-old mom and my five grandchildren. I volunteer at the Minnesota Orchestra. I like to bike and love to be outdoors. I still work part time in biomedical ethics at Regions Hospital, which I find to be meaningful work.
What leads you to continue serving your community as an optometrist?
Mostly to hang out with the GREAT optometrists in this state. I continue to be impressed with how very smart and committed they are, to their patients, to their profession and to each other.
If you weren't an optometrist, what would you be?
A UPS delivery person.
What drives you to continue your membership with the Minnesota Optometric Association?
The Association is and has been an anchor for me during my professional years. It leads us and guides us. Most of us are too busy to keep up with all the things going on in optometry. The Association brings us together for education, political updates and camaraderie. It moves us forward.
What cause means the most to you right now? Does not have to be optometry related, but can be.
Taking care of each other. Being kind and respectful.
What fun fact would you like to share about yourself?
I love to mow the lawn. I love the smell and the symmetry of the straight lines behind me.
Please list any professional accolades you have been awarded.
Oh geez. Really?
