PS Council Seeking Candidates for 2010-2011

The PS Council is seeking candidates to run for one of five open positions for the 2010-2011 program year:

  • Trustee (two will be elected),
  • Secretary,
  • Vice Chair, and
  • Chair Elect.

Any Section member who wishes to become a candidate for Council should submit a Letter of Intent, including the Council position sought, an explanation of career goals and objectives, and answers to the following questions:

  1. How much time have you given to organized paraoptometric activities on the local, state, and national levels in each of the last two years?
  2. To what other organizations do you belong? Do you now, or have you ever, held offices in these organizations?
  3. Will you have adequate time to devote to Section projects? (This may entail spending ten to fifteen hours a month on PS projects.)
  4. Will you be able to take time away from your home and work to attend meetings for the Section and on behalf of the Section? Council meets approximately three times a year and Council members may be asked to represent the Section at one or more state or regional meetings during the year. (Council members will be reimbursed for travel expenses to attend Council meetings and for other authorized Section travel.)

Additionally, candidates should include a Curriculum Vitae, a list of three professional references, and a current photograph (for use in the PS newsletter). Any member in good standing may also run from the floor during the election process.

Candidates will take part in an interview process hosted by the Nominating Committee, prior to the Annual Business Meeting at Optometry’s Meeting® in Orlando, FL in June. Additionally, candidates will participate in a question-and-answer session during the Section’s annual business meeting.

The AOA Paraoptometric Section encourages you to represent the paraoptometric profession by submitting your completed intent to run information postmarked no later than April 2, 2010, to the AOA Paraoptometric Section, Attn: Nominating Committee, 243 N. Lindbergh Blvd., 1st floor, St. Louis, MO 63141-7881 or by e-mail to PS@aoa.org.
