There are many opportunities to volunteer your time, your knowledge and your experience within the paraoptometric community. If you are interested in making a difference, review these committee descriptions and contact the AOA PS at PS@aoa.org to let us know which is the perfect fit for you.

 

AWARDS COMMITTEE
Be part of the team who choose the BEST in the paraoptometric community. Decide who will be Paraoptometric of the Year and other PS award recipients. Develop plan to promote Paraoptometric Recognition Week.

Commitment: 3-4 conference calls

Volunteer

INFANTSEE® and OPTOMETRY GIVING SIGHT
Raise awareness for involvement as an ambassador for these great programs, which allow the optometric community to give back to their neighbors.

Commitment: as needed

PS E-NEWSLETTER
Contribute ideas and input to the quarterly PS E-newsletter. Are you a writer or a photographer? Then we want you on our team.

Commitment: 4 newsletters per year, 4 conference calls.

OPTOMETRY’S CAREER CENTER ® (OCC)
Represent the Paraoptometric Section as liaison to the “monster.com of optometry”, OCC.

Commitment: As needed

OPTOMETRY’S MEETING® CONTINUING EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Assist in coordination of the Education Program for Optometry’s Meeting®. Review speakers, course topics and workshops for paraoptometrics for this national gathering of the optometry community.

Commitment: 3-4 conference calls

ONLINE EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Directly influence the education of other paraoptometrics by developing a yearly continuing education plan. Recruit new authors, review test questions and promote awareness.

Commitment: 6-8 conference calls.

OPTOMETRY’S MEETING® AMBASSADOR
Use your personality to make other members feel at ease during OM social functions, assist speakers during education courses, take photographs of events and interview attendees. Pitch in and lend an extra hand at Optometry’s Meeting®.

Commitment: As needed. Must be registered for OM.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
Spread the word about all the great member benefits you enjoy and join the team that develops a membership recruitment and retention plan. Review membership benefits and help develop a marketing plan to attract new members.

Commitment: 5-6 conference calls.

SPEAKERS’ BUREAU COMMITTEE
Recruit new speakers and increase awareness of the national directory of lecturers designed to assist meeting organizer throughout the US.

Commitment:  3 conference calls.

STATE AFFILIATE RELATIONS COMMITTEE
Develop new ideas for stronger communication and assistance between state paraoptometric leaders and the AOA Paraoptometric Section Council.

Commitment: 4-5 conference calls.
